WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — An unidentified man was arrested on suspicion of an OWI after causing damage to businesses and vehicles along a three-block stretch near Athletic Park on Thursday.
WAOW TV reports the 61-year-old man started the spree by hitting several street signs, then taking down the sign for Kemp Automotive in the area of North 18th Street and Wausau Avenue. Officers say that led to several calls about a black Chevy pickup that was driving erratically in the area.
The incident ended with damage to a car parked near Athletic Park, where the Wisconsin Woodchucks were playing a Northwoods League game.
It’s unclear if this is the man’s first OWI or if he has others on his record. Police say the man did tell them he is diabetic, but that was not believed to be a factor in the incident.
