VILLAGE OF MAINE, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Life jackets are credited with saving two lives after a boating accident in the former Village of Brokaw Saturday.
WAOW TV reports two people were canoeing when their vessel capsized. First responders were called in and were able to rescue the boaters.
“Luckily, and this is something we don’t get to see very often, is that they were boating very smart,” Mark Wagers, Lieutenant, Marathon County Sheriff’s Office told WAOW TV. “They both had personal floatation devices on and that is the only reason they are alive.”
Wagers adds that water temperatures remain cold and currents are strong, meaning boaters need to take precautions every time out.
The Marathon County Sheriff’s Office, Maine Fire Department, and Wausau Fire Department all responded to the incident.
