STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — A former Marine and small business owner has announced his intention to run for Wisconsin’s 71st Assembly District seat in Portage County.
Scott Soik launched his campaign on Wednesday, saying his background in the private sector as a small businessman is just what the state needs.
“With the horrible impact the COVID-19 shutdown is having on Wisconsin’s economy, my background in the private sector and in small business will make me the right choice to ensure that Portage County will be in the best position to recover quickly,” said Soik in a press release.
Soik currently serves on the Portage County board of supervisors. He currently lives just outside of Stevens Point in the Town of Linwood with his wife and three children. His service in the Marines ran from 1993-’97 and he currently owns River Valley Specialized Machining.
The 71st Assembly district is currently represented by Democrat Katrina Shankland.
