WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Felony animal abuse charges against Andrew Geher will move forward after he was arraigned on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old is accused of beating his ex-girlfriend’s cat to the point that she had to be put down, then hiding her in a shed and pretending to help her find the pet.
According to the veterinarian the cat was likely beaten to the point of total blindness and loss of brain function. The injuries were compared to those the cat would have suffered after being kicked by a horse or being in a fight with a dog.
Gehr admitted that he knew the cat was still alive when he hid her in a shed, and also admitted to “playing stupid” while helping his ex look for the cat. He added that he “needs help with his anger.”
Gehr is free on a signature bond and will return to court on July 19th for a pretrial conference.
Charges against Gehr were originally set at the misdemeanor level, but after friends and family of his ex protested and wrote letters to the Judge they were elevated to felony counts.
