Milwaukee Brewers
MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — The Milwaukee Brewers held on for a 4-3 win over Pittsburgh on Friday thanks to a late home run from Willy Adames, who also assisted on the final out of the game.
The home run was the only hit of the game for Adames, while three Brewers recorded two hits including Kolten Wong and Keston Hiura. Wong’s line included the only other multi-base hit of the game for Milwaukee, a 4th inning triple. Wong also scored two runs in the game.
That thrilling final out saw former Brewer Daniel Vogelbach single on a line drive to right field which brought home Deigo Castillo. The Pirates sent Kevin Newman home from third to try to tie the game, but he was tagged out by catcher Victor Caratini on the throw from Andrew McCutchen through Adames.
Starter Aaron Ashby picked up just his second win of the season allowing three hits and two earned runs over five innings. A trio of relievers then bridged the gap to the 9th when closer Josh Hader worked around two hits, a walk, and a run allowed to get the final out on that thrilling putout at home.
Hader also recorded two strikeouts.
The same two teams will go at it again this afternoon at American Family Field. Pregame coverage starts at 2:35 on WSAU.
