WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WSAU) — Water skiing competitors from around the world will be competing in central Wisconsin in a little over a year. The Wisconsin Rapids based Aqua Skiers ski club was awarded the bid to host the 2016 World Show Ski Tournament at Red Sand Beach on Lake Wazeecha near Kellner.
The International Waterski and Wakeboard Federation (IWWF) has an international committee that reviewed the bids and selected the Lake Wazeecha site. There was also an online voting campaign, and ski enthusiasts put in an overwhelming number of votes in support of the Aqua Skiers bid. Forty-six percent of the online votes supported the Wisconsin Rapids club’s bid.
There have been two previous world tournaments, and both were in Janesville. The Aqua Skiers have hosted many tournaments, and were chosen over bids from the Rock Aqua Jays from Janesville and the Ski Broncs from Loves Park, Illinois.
The exact date of the 2016 competition has not been determined.
