LAHAINA, HI (WSAU) — The Badgers fell to the 4th ranked North Carolina Tar Heels in the Maui Invitational Title Game last night, 71-56.
The undfeated Tar Heels held the Badgers to just 38% shooting from the field. Bronson Koenig had been the Badgers leading score coming into the game but was held to just 1-13 from the field and only 2 points. Vito Brown lead the way for UW with 15 points and Ethan Happ added on 13 of his own.
Wisconsin would miss their first 11 shots of the game and didn’t score until almost seven and a half minutes went by. They were able to bring the deficit to single digits by halftime, being down 29-20 at the break. North Carolina would create some distance in the second half and never look back outscoring UW 42-36.
This was just the second loss of the year for Wisconsin. Up next they’ll take on Prairie View A&M Sunday, before another top 25 showdown with number 18 Syracuse next Tuesday.
