GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) There’s a new health concern for Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson, although he insists it isn’t a big deal. Nelson was on the ‘Physically Unable to Perform’ list on the opening day of practice because of a minor injury to his left knee. That’s separate from the ACL injury to Nelson’s right leg that sidelined him last season.
Nelson told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: “Through training this summer, I had an incident with the other knee. Nothing serious. Something minor. A little hiccup in it. Our end goal is to be ready for the regular season. There’s just a little bit of a hiccup with the other leg.” He wasn’t more specific than that.
The Packer say they are happy with Nelson’s rehab on his right ACL, although the team has said he’ll be used sparingly during the preseason. Nelson had taken part in organized team activities earlier this summer, and was catching passes from Aaron Rodgers on the sidelines. Rodgers, Nelson and several other veterans were excused from some of the earlier workouts.
The Packers had several players on the PUP list for the first day of practice. They include receiver Ty Montgomery, linebacker Sam Barrington, new tight end Jared Cook, guard T.J. Lang, and center Corey Linsley.
The Packers play their first preseason game on August 7 against Indianapolis and open the regular season at Jacksonville on September 11.
