MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — The Milwaukee Brewers added another bullpen arm in a Monday trade with the Texas Rangers.
The Brewers sent minor league reliever Antoine Kelly and utility man Mark Mathias to the Rangers for right-handed pitcher Matt Bush.
The 36-year-old Bush is 2-1 this season with a 2.95 ERA in 40 appearances for the Rangers. He throws in the high 90’s. Brewers GM David Stearns described his stuff as “electric” and expects Bush to be able to pitch in high leverage spots for Milwaukee.
Kelly was a 2nd round pick in 2019 and had recently been promoted to AA Biloxi from the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. He’s 4-2 with an ERA of 3.86 in 19 starts this season. Mathias was hitting .231 with one home run and eight RBIs for the Brewers. He had been up and down with the big club after making his major league debut in 2020.
The MLB trade deadline is 6 PM Tuesday.
