WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — After 40 years of service to the City of Wausau, Greg Seubert has announced he’ll be retiring in early 2023. While the ink has barely dried on his retirement notice the city is wasting no time organizing a search for his replacement.
On Tuesday the city’s Finance Committee approved spending $22,500 to conduct a national search for the next director. Those on the committee and residents who spoke both agreed that a national search is warranted because the position is important for many residents.
“I depend on it, and many other people in this community depend on it,” said Kathi Zorn, who serves on the city’s Transit Commission. “It’s very important that we get the right person in here to expand the service.
“I want the system to grow. I don’t want it to fall apart,” she added.
Alders Sarah Watson and Lisa Rasmussen agreed that the city needs to cast a wide net. “There is an awful lot of institutional knowledge within him. We are going to need someone who is not only a visionary but also highly knowledgable and experienced in running a system like that,” said Rasmussen.
“Getting some new, fresh ideas, I think, is a really good idea. So I’m very excited that it’s going to be put out on a nationwide service,” added Watson.
The search will be funded through vacancies in the Transit Department’s budget. It’s unclear at this time which firm will be tasked with helping the city in the search process.
