MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — The Merrill Fire Department has been awarded a grant from the North Central Regional Trauma Advisory Council that will be used to distribute emergency response kits to local businesses.
The “stop the bleed” kits consist of all the items needed to help stop significant blood loss for someone that has just received a traumatic injury. Fire Chief Josk Klug says his staff also plans to conduct training on how to use the items in the kit with local businesses as well.
Klug says they intend to prioritize distribution for those businesses that already have AED kits on hand “We recognize our community has embraced public access AEDs for years, so citizens are familiar with them and their locations. Adding Stop the Bleed kits to AED locations will better equip the public should the need arise to quickly treat a life-threatening traumatic injury,” said Klug in a press release.
The department has 62 kits to distribute thanks to the $3,250 grant. Those businesses and organizations that would like to receive a kit or have the Merrill Fire Department provide a “stop the bleed” training course should contact the Administrative Assistant at 715-536-2233 or by email at fdadministrative@ci.merrill.wi.us.
