Green Bay Packers
UNDATED (WSAU) – Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisconsin) has re-introduced a bill that would require Green Bay Packers games to be shown on free TV to all homes in Wisconsin.
There are some parts of western and northern Wisconsin that are considered parts of other television markets, and get Vikings games instead of Packers games during the fall. Western Wisconsin in the Mississippi River valley is part of the Minneapolis/St Paul TV market. Some northern counties are part of the Duluth/Superior TV market. Baldwin says about 400,000 households in those areas don’t get regional Packers broadcasts.
Baldwin said in a written statement: “My Go-Pack-Go Act would give Packers fans in every Wisconsin country the opportunity to watch Packers games.” Baldwin’s bill would require cable and online providers to air the Packers games if they serve Wisconsin households. The bill would also require viewers in those counties to have access to Wisconsin-based newscasts.
Programming providers are opposed to the bill, saying the government should not interfere in their private contracts with the NFL. All teams’ broadcasts are available through subscription services.
