WASHINGTON, DC (WSAU) — The Milwaukee Brewers couldn’t hold a 3-1 eighth-inning lead on Saturday as the Washington Nationals picked up a 5-4 in game two of their series.
Strong work by the Washington bullpen in the late innings helped hold up a quality start from Stephen Strasburg who went six innings and gave up five hits to record one of his best starts of the season since coming off the disabled list.
Chase Anderson labored through five innings allowing four hits and one run before a rain delay of nearly two hours interrupted the proceedings. Joakim Soria was ultimately tagged with the loss.
Manny Piña and Jonathan Schoop each recorded two hits in the game. Tyler Saladino came through with a pinch-hit solo home run in the top of the 9th but it wasn’t enough to start a rally.
With the loss, Milwaukee drops five full games behind the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central. The Brewers do still own the second Wild Card slot behind another division rival in St. Louis.
