(Reuters) – The Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) on Friday issued a hot weather alert, projecting temperatures on Tuesday to rise to 98 degrees Fahrenheit (37°C) or higher in Missouri and Arkansas, and 95F in Iowa.
MISO operates the grid for some 42 million people in 15 U.S. central states from Minnesota to Louisiana and the Canadian province of Manitoba.
The operator instructed energy company members in the central region to “review outage plans and coordinate with MISO and neighbors to determine if any scheduled maintenance or testing should be deferred or revoked.”
MISO, which has already warned of potential capacity shortfalls in parts of its region this summer, said it will take other emergency steps, if necessary, to maintain reliability.
