MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — A Merrill man has been arrested after a crash that killed an eight-year-old boy from Gleason and injured three others.
According to the State Patrol a southbound Dodge Ram crossed the center line on State Highway 17 and struck a Chevy Silverado head-on. Two occupants, an adult male and minor female, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. An adult female was critically injured and taken to Aspirus Wausau.
The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say the driver of the Ram, a 41-year-old Merrill man, had been drinking and was taken into custody by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office after he was treated for injuries. Potential charges against him currently include homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle. Additional charges could be added as the crash remains under investigation.
Names of the adults involved have not been released, and investigators will not release the names of the children involved due to their age.
