WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – Wisconsin Public Service is telling customers that natural gas bills will be up this winter.
WPS says their typical customer paid around $120 a month to health their home last winter. They estimate that will rise to $150 this year.
WPS says the war in Ukraine is partly to blame. Although natural gas is plentiful in the United States, it is a global commodity. Higher prices elsewhere can cause prices to rise here. Russia has limited natural gas supplies to many European nations. Those countries are looking for other suppliers, forcing prices to go up.
Customers who qualify can sign up for the WHEAP program, which helps cover some or all of utility bills. To register, call 800 506-5596.
Consumers can also save money by winterizing their homes, including weather-stripping around windows and having their furnace checked.
