RIB MOUNTAIN, WI (WSAU) — Dog lovers and local business leaders will gather to mark the grand opening of the phase 2 improvements for Sandy’s Bark Park in Rib Mountain on Thursday.
“We had some land donated by the Austin Living Trust that was adjacent to the existing dog park,” said Town Administrator Gaylene Rhoden. “That allowed us to expand the dog park so it could be considered an off-leash area.”
The town then worked to fence in the land and outfit it with a walking path, water, and other amenities. The second phase expansion also includes a shelter which will soon be installed by Wausau Homes.
Expansion of the park is expected to continue. Rhoden says they also envision an on-leash walking area that will connect the park to the current trail system and an expanded parking lot. The Rib Mountain Foundation has approved a brick sale to help fund the latter, with two different sizes going for $100 or $200. The bricks can then be dedicated in honor of a pet or a person.
The ribbon cutting will be facilitated by the Greater Wausau Chamber of Commerce at 4 PM. Rhoden says if you like you can bring your dog and allow them to be among the first to play in the new area.
The ceremony will take place at the entrance located along Thrush Avenue. Those attending can park in the grass area near that entrance.
