MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — A pair of 9th-inning homers lifted the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 4-2 win over the Brewers in the final game of the regular season on Wednesday.
Tyrone Taylor and Rowdy Tellez provided the runs for the Brewers. Taylor on an RBI groundout in the 5th, Tellez on an 8th-inning solo homer. Willy Adames and Keston Hiura each had two hits in the game as well.
Milwaukee ran five pitchers out for the game beginning with Corbin Burnes. He went three perfect innings with five strikeouts in nine batters faced. Aaron Ashby, Brad Boxberger, and Hoby Milner followed.
Trevor Gott served up the two homers in the 9th that turned a 2-1 lead into a 4-2 deficit. He was charged with a blown save and the loss.
Milwaukee finishes the season 86-76 and in second place in the NL Central.
Division champion St. Louis will host a best-of-three series against the Philadelphia Phillies beginning on Friday. The winner of that series advances to the NLDS against the Atlanta Braves.
In the other Wild Card Series, the New York Mets will host the best-of-three series against San Diego. The winner of that series gets the top-seeded Dodgers in the Division Series.
