WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — Three Wisconsin Rapids pitchers combined for a 1-hitter, as the Rafters beat the Wisconsin Woodchucks 9-0 on Independence Day. Brandon Seltzer of the Woodchucks broke up a potential no-hitter with a two-our single in the 9th.
Wisconsin Rapids used three pitchers to secure the win. The most dominating performance came from Spencer Arrighetti, who worked the 4th through 8th innings. He retired all 15 batters he faced, striking out 8. Starter Jack Gonzales struck our 7 and allowed only one baserunner. Alex Salazar gave up the only hit working the 9th.
Wisconsin Rapids jumped on the Chucks early. The Rafters collected two runs in the first inning, and an additional six runs in the second. Ryan Walstad put an exclamation point on the early-game effort, hitting a three-run home run to make it 8-0 after just two innings. Wisconsin committed six errors defensively, including two in the six-run second inning for the Rafters.
Wisconsin’s starter Connor O’Hara lasted just 1.2 innings in the game, surrendering eight runs on seven hits.
The Woodchucks are on the road against the Rockford Rivets on Sunday for a 3:05pm game.
