RIB MOUNTAIN, WI (WSAU) — Those who went to Burn Boot Camp Tuesday morning to get their workout on may have also been victims of a string of vehicle break-ins at the gym.
Marathon County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sarah Severson says at least nine people have reported that their cars were broken into and valuables including wallets, cell phones, and purses were stolen.
“We are in the process of further investigating whether those break-ins are related to a string of targeted thefts from gyms across the country and across the state of Wisconsin,” said Severson. ”
The Sheriff’s Office is encouraging anyone who went to the gym Tuesday morning, especially between 6 AM and 7 AM, to check their vehicles to make sure they weren’t victimized as well. Neighboring businesses are being asked to check their surveillance camera footage to see if they may have captured footage of the break-ins as well.
“If you saw something suspicious, please let us know. If you were in the area and you have video surveillance please review the footage and be sure to contact us if you have anything that you think would be helpful,” added Severson.
Severson adds that this is another reminder to keep your vehicle locked and never leave anything of value inside while you are at the gym or making a trip to the store. “First and foremost lock your doors. If you have any valuables, take them with you or make sure they are stowed out of site and secured.”
She adds that removing them from your vehicle is always the preferred option.
Anyone with information about Tuesday’s incident is asked to call the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number at 715-261-1200.
