MADISON, WI (WSAU) — An Oshkosh man has been convicted of stealing more than $400,000 as part of an elder abuse scheme.
Investigators say Terry Culver took a total of $426,000 out of the victim’s bank account after they had been placed in a nursing home. He then spent the money on himself for everything from home improvements to trips to Las Vegas. He also filed fraudulent tax returns over a five-year period.
The 64-year-old held power of attorney over the 92-year-old victim.
“DOJ’s Medicaid Fraud Control and Elder Abuse Unit works diligently to bring those who cheat seniors to justice,” said Attorney General Josh Kaul in a press release regarding the incident. “Thank you to everyone whose work ensured that the defendant was convicted for these crimes.”
Culver will be sentenced on January 4th. He faces eight Class H felonies, which in Wisconsin are punishable by up to six years in state prison and $10,000 in fines.
