The death of the nations newspapers has been well documented. I mourn a past where you would get a fat newspaper to spread on your lap and devour, not only the news of the day, but the great columnists, long-form pieces on all kinds of topics, great, in depth sportswriting, and even the funny pages (as we called the comic section). Reading this stuff on the internet is fine, but the idea of the “ink-stained wretches”of the fourth estate, bring about romantic notions of deadlines and undercover sources and breaking the big story. One of my favorite movies over the last few years was “The Post”. I used to read three newspapers every morning. Now its websites and Twitter. I know stories are still being broken by folks at the New York Times, The Boston Globe and “The Post”, but it's not the same. The reason I bring this up is we lost another local iconic journalist this week. Don Friday passed away Saturday at the age of 83. Almost every town has a “Don Friday” Some folks are immediately identified with a particular city. Don Friday is one of those. Don Friday is Stevens Point personified. He grew up in Point, graduated from PJ Jacobs (as Spash was then known) and attended UWSP. He finished his college studies at UW-Madison and returned to Stevens Point within three months of graduation to become the sports editor for the Stevens Point Daily Journal. He wore many hats for the paper as it covered a variety of sports both high school & college and he reveled in it. In my baseball playing days of the 1970's we always looked forward to playing Stevens Point because we knew we would get a great, detailed write up in the Journal (an probably get our names in the paper) But Don branched out as well. He did play-by-play and color commentary on radio broadcasts. He was one of the co-founders of the Community Parks Improvement Committee which sponsors the annual Sentry Classic basketball Tournament and has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for park improvements in the city. And he was a staunch supporter of American Legion baseball. Our paths crossed for many years as he was an assistant coach in the dugout and a prime mover and shaker of Legion baseball in the city at a time when Legion Baseball was “the” summertime baseball program and Stevens Point was a shining jewel. He was instrumental in Stevens Point bidding on national tournaments including holding the 1987 American Legion World Series at Bukolt Park. After his retirement in 2000 he suffered a stroke which left it hard for him to communicate. But he was still at the ballpark every summer and it was nice to catch up with him. His peers and those who were involved with him know his worth. he's been inducted into numerous Halls of fame over the years….Wisconsin Basketball Coaches, Central Wisconsin Baseball, UWSP Athletic, Stevens Point High School, Wisconsin American Legion Baseball and Pacelli Athletic. Visitation for Don will be Friday from 5-7 at Shuda Funeral Home in Stevens Point with the funeral Saturday at 11am at St. Peter Catholic Church
Khris Middleton may be the best 2nd banana in the NBA. He picked up Giannis last night as the Bucks won again in OT. 40 points and huge down the stretch in the OT. Isnt it funny though that you can have 22 points and 14 rebounds like Giannis and it's considered an off night. The Bucks depth was huge again. Brook Lopez out and his brother steps up with 11. Bledose with 23 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds. Donte Divencenzo with a double double too. Tough back to back after an overtime game…they are in Toronto tonight.
The high school girls basketball tournament begins tonight. I'll be in Merrill as the Wausau East girls face the Bluejays. It will air as the 2nd game of our DH following Green Bay East at DC Everest.
Season 3 is coming March 15th! The robots are loose!!

Trump can always be counted on to say the wrong thing. It's what happens when you have a President who doesn't read his briefing books and doesn't care to learn about the world outside of his ability to make money off it.
“Our relationship with Pakistan is a very good one…we are beginning to see signs of big progress with Pakistan.”-Donald Trump
It says this in Ahmedabad.
To shocked #Modi supporters.

India & Pakistan are enemies.

The corruption of this administration is right out in the open for everyone to see.
Trump flew back to his own Las Vegas hotel each night during the western-states swing that wrapped up Friday, rather than in the other cities he was actually visiting. That likely cost taxpayers $1m extra, and diverted thousands of $ into his own pocket

“Think about the cruelty of our health care system. Someone is diagnosed with cancer. They are fighting for their lives. Then they get a $100,000 bill. And in the midst of all of this, health care companies make $100 billion in profit a year. That has got to change.”-Bernie Sanders
“The Humana CEO, Bruce Broussard, made $27,200,000 in 2018. One resident of Louisville made more money profiting off sick people than our city government spent on Public Health & Wellness! It’s time to tax the rich, end insurance profiteering, and provide Medicare for All.”-Louisville DSA
