One of the things that folks of all political stripes should be able to agree on is the debacle that is NFL pre-season football. I understand that teams need these games to evaluate the players that will make the squad but even that task could be accomplished in practice. To charge a premium price for what is obviously a defective product makes the league look greedy and weak. Last nights Packer-Raider game was a prime example. We want to showcase the NFL in Canada but end up playing the game on a shoddy field with changes to the rules because of it. And most, if not all, of the starters on both teams didnt play. Now this was for different reasons and even that has some controversy. It's been reported that Oakland had never planned to play their starters and didnt even bring most of them to Canada. The Packers apparently didnt know this and were planning to play most of their starters including Aaron Rodgers. The crappy field conditions gave Green Bay an out and they decided to sit 33 players last night. So, my question is, the field was unsafe for Rodgers and the rest of the starters but it was ok for the “expendable” guys to play on? Thats the look you want to give? And even that is questionable. Apparently Jon Gruden, the Oakland coach, said he had no problem with the condition of the field. In my opinion, the answer is to make these games free and have a raffle drawing for folks who are interested in going. Have them register at the Packer website in the spring and announce the “winners” on the first day of camp. Then we'll know that only that folks who really dont care about the product they are seeing on the field and are only there for the tailgating and stadium experience will be subjected to this nonsense and not have to pay a small fortune for the “privilege”.
We are seeing too many political cartoonists neutered by the suits who don't want to offend their corporate overlords. You could add satire and lampoonery to this list

A song that Bruce Springsteen recorded nearly 20 years ago is finally being released. The song “I'll Stand By You” appears in the new Springsteen-inspired movie “Blinded By The Light and a lyric video has been released as well. Springsteen wrote the song about 20 years after he was inspired by the Harry Potter books he was reading to his children and recorded the song in 2001 for a Harry Potter movie. The song was rejected becasue JK Rowlings contract said no commercial songs could be used in the movie. Here is the video and also the trailer for the film that should be must viewing for “Boss” fans
I'm getting a chance to see David Crosby and his hot band this Saturday night at Big Top Chatauqua in Bayfield. Here he is at the Pabst earlier this year. I've seen Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman's solo tours in the last few years and I would much rather see a Byrds reunion than a CSNY one but McGuinn is not interested.

Quotes Of The Day
“We’re getting to a point where there’s a case to be made as a journalist, as an objective journalist, that there isn’t much upside in giving a lot of stock in listening to the White House,”since basically everything they say is turned around by the president or undermined by other pieces of facts that we see other places outside of the White House. I mean, from Greenland to the background checks to the payroll tax cut. I mean, everything this White House says is undermined by something else.”-Jake Sherman
“Our Ambassador to Denmark is a grad of Life Chiropractic College & an actress “best known for her work in Deathstalker & the Warriors from Hell” as Wiki painfully notes.
So Trump trying to buy Greenland may not make him the most ridiculous American Denmark has encountered. “-Stuart Stevens
“So now we are going to war with Denmark because the female prime minister smacked down Trump’s absurd musing on buying Greenland. Trump can’t handle rejection, particularly from a woman. I pray about 80 to 90 million Americans reject this incompetent clown come Nov. 2020!”-John Dean
“For 6 months, Sean Spicer served as White House Press Secretary to the most vile “president” in modern history. In that time, he repeatedly lied, obfuscated, and endorsed the badgering of a free press. He enabled hatred. He belongs on a public blacklist, not in a waltz.”-Charlotte Clymer
“Just think about the (liberal) TV executives who did this. Think about what they said to each other in making this choice. Think about why they did it. And then the dark, empty soul of commercial TV will be revealed to you & you’ll understand how we got Trump.”-Lawrence O'Donnell
“Trump begins his speech to veterans by repeating, for more than the 85th time as president, his false claim that he got the Veterans Choice program passed after more than 44 years of failure. Obama signed it into law in 2014. “We got it, so congratulations,” Trump said to cheers.”-Daniel Dale
“A reminder that the Tree of Life synagogue shooter murdered 11 Jews on Shabbos because of their congregation’s social justice work and support for immigrant rights. The President’s labeling of liberal Jews as disloyal is a validation of this kind of violence. It’s chilling.”-Caryn Mrotz
“Ideally, you want the King of the Jews and the guy who literally called Nazis “very fine people” to be two different people”-Jeff Tiedrich
“I don’t know. Maybe it’s time to turn off all of Twitter, wait a few seconds and then turn it back on. Maybe that will make it less…horrifying?”-Audra McDonald
