STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — The UWSP womens basketball team won their opening game and the first for new head coach Matt Hockett. They topped Northland College 91-47 Tuesday night at Berg Gym.
Gabby Gawlitta had 19 points and nine rebounds. Alexa Thomson had 18 points and seven boards. Josie Nies had 11 and Olivia Hoerl 10 in her collegiate debut.
The Pointers, now 1-0, will travel to Whitewater this weekend for games vs Milliken on Friday and Carroll on Saturday.
The UWSP womens hockey team skated to a 3-3 tie with St. Norbert Tuesday night in Stevens Point.
Freshman Maddie Andrle and Grace Torma both scored their first collegiate goals. Courtney Leising had the other Pointer goal
Olivia Schultz had 41 saves.
The Pointers, now 2-1-1, will travel to River Falls for the conference opener on Friday night.
The UWSP mens basketball team opens the season tonight hosting St. Olaf at 7pm.
