One of the folks I follow on Twitter is a smart guy named Jamie O'Grady who comments on many different subjects and yesterday he responded to a question thrown out by the BBC. “Whats the strongest run of three songs in a row on an album? Hmm…O'Grady's suggestions were: The Song Remains the Same, The Rain Song & Over the Hills And Far Away from Led Zeppelin or “Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, With A Little Help From My Friends, Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds”. Without thinking about it for too long I came up with: Introduction, Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is and Beginnings from Chicago Transit Authority, or Black Cow, Aja, Deacon Blues from the Aja LP Steely Dan or maybe “Like a Rolling Stone, Tombstone Blues & It Takes Alot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry from Hwy 61 Revisited. Some other strong suggestions I saw included “After The Goldrush, Only Love Can Break Your Heart & Southern Man from the Neil Young Lp “After The Goldrush”. If you start thinking about and researching this be aware you are heading down a rabbit hole and will get no work done today. It does get you remembering some really good records. There are as many choices as there are people in the world. So, what makes an LP classic for you?

Joan Baez is the latest to announce a final tour. She will hit the road for 27 dates this fall to support her first new LP since 2008. The closest to us will be Oct 5 at the Chicago Theater and Oct 6th at the State Theater in Minneapolis. The LP will include some tasty covers including the title track (a Tom Waits song). I'm listening to Joan Baez tunes while I write this…a nice mellow start to the day.
