The Super Bowl game that saved the game and made it what it
became was played on this date in 1969. The Packers had destroyed the AFL teams
it had played in the first two Championship matchups and it looked like it
would be another domination by the old NFL’s Baltimore Colts again. Many think
if that would have happened it would have severely damaged the idea of pitting
the two leagues against each other again and might have made them look differently
at merging. But here came Broadway Joe Namath and the NY Jets who upset the
Colts 16-7. Plus he guaranteed victory before the game
The Packers have avoided playing in London again. The three
games were announced yesterday. It will be Seattle vs Oakland (nice travel),
Philly vs Jacksonville and Tennessee vs the LA Chargers
A couple of classic tv shows debuted on this date…Batman in
1966 and All In The Family in 1971. Could Archie Bunker exist today on network
tv? Would the show even get on the air??

hands over Trump’s “shithole” comment.
It’s not shocking to me that Trump’s latent racism bursts forth now and again.
For those of you who are surprised by his comments, start paying attention. For
those of you covering for him, shame on you……………………….a new open letter has been
sent to members of Congress by seventeen former nuclear launch officers which
says that the current US launch process “poses a clear and present danger to
the country and the world” Dr. Bruce Blair wrote: “We cannot stand idly by as
Donald Trump holds us all hostage to his petulant mood swings. Donald Trump is
the last person who should possess the nuclear codes and the power to start a
nuclear conflagration. Our weapons have the power to destroy entire nations,
including our own if he initiates a nuclear war. As a former steward of the
nuclear launch keys, I’ve learned about the stability, competence and
temperament it takes to hold such a responsibility, and Donald Trump has shown
us all he possesses none of those qualities”. The letter argues there are a number
of good proposals before Congress right now that would rein in the Presidents
power to order the first use of nuclear weapons. The defense secretary or
attorney general could have a role in certifying a launch order, a declaration
of war could be necessary to launch first or ending first use entirely……Maybe
he said the stuff about other countries to cover up the story of his confusion
about FISA courts yesterday (misheard some bad advice from the Fox folks). Isn’t
it a problem when the President of the United States is getting his policy
information from partisan TV hacks as opposed to trained intelligence analysts
and experts in the field? Or maybe he said outrageous things to distract from
the news that the Walton family closed a bunch of stores with no warning. The
employees found out when they showed up for work and the stores were locked up………….
