Would the College Football Playoff Committee dare to leave an
undefeated Big Ten team out of the playoff? I would have said no weeks ago but
now I’m not so sure. The SEC apologists continue to belittle Wisconsin’s
schedule and yet I’ve read in various places that Alabama’s is worse. The
thinking now is that Wisconsin has to win the Big Ten title game to have any
chance of making the playoff. That their 12-0 record means nothing at this point. And
yet they could conceivably put a 1 or even a 2 loss team ahead of them. I’ve
even read on social media that the TV people and the NCAA don’t want Wisconsin
in the playoff because not enough fans will care about them to watch. Once again,
the problem of people in the rest of the country knowing nothing about our
state outside of cows, cheese and beer. You can put the Badger fan base up
against almost any school in the country and know that Wisconsin will hold it’s
own in any metric you want. I really hope the Badgers can beat Ohio State on
Saturday night so we don’t have to live with a mountain of “I told you so’s”
from needy SEC fans everywhere.
As tweeted by @scaryalvarez…things that didn’t exist the
last time Minnesota won the ax…Google, Twitter,You Tube,IPhone…
It has to be the goofiest basketball game in some time if
not ever. Saturday’s matchup between Alabama and Minnesota featured a brawl
that saw the ejection of the entire Alabama bench. When they later had a player
foul out and another injured, they had to play the final 12 minutes of the game
with three players. They actually outscored the Gophers during that stretch
although Minnesota had a big enough lead to still win the game.
Did Brett Hundley’s performance last night give you hope? Also Aaron Rodgers throwing a pass over 40 yards before the game??
The Badger mens basketball team is 0-3 against Top 25 teams
this year but have played them all tough, being tied or within two points with
2 minutes remaining in all three games. Can they get over the hump tonight at
Virginia? You can hear the game on WSAU at 7pm
Read Paul Krugman’s column in the New York Times this
weekend on the con-job of Republican tax reform. If you care to see behind the
curtain.
Elections have consequences…I have said if you want to study
the increasing craziness of Donald Trump all you need to do is follow him on
Twitter for a week. This past weekend alone the needy egomaniac Tweeted that he
“turned down” the Time Magazine Person of the Year title. It’s total bullshit
and yet how many of his apologists will believe it and see it as Trump’s battle
against the ‘mainstream media”? He also ripped CNN International as”fake news”
and says it doesn’t represent America to the world. As CNN noted, that’s not
their job. And in fact, by trashing what many in the world view as an example
of a free press, he does a disservice that weakens the ability of those who
oppose authoritarian regimes around the globe. But then why should we be surprised
by that? Trump has never met a dictator that he didn’t like or wanted to
emulate. And finally Trump tweeted this “The Consumer Financial Protection
Bureau, or CFPB, has been a total disaster as run by previous Administrations
pick. Financial Institutions have been devastated and unable to properly serve
the public” As Roberto Ferdman reported the CFPB, in just nine years, has
secured almost $12 billion in consumer relief for corporate wrong-doing,
including $700 million from CITI and Bank Of America, $100 million from Wells
Fargo for opening millions of fake bank accounts, and $130 million owed to
service members/veterans. Sure, I could see where Trump would see that as a “disaster”
since the agency is doing exactly what it was meant to do…battle corporate
malfeasance from the sharks on Wall Street. This is about an agency that was
the personal effort from Senator Elizabeth Warren, who Trump could see if he
makes it to the next election cycle. It also clearly shows who Trump favors,
you or your corporate overlords.
