The high school fall
sports season comes to an end today and tomorrow as the Football playoffs
culminate with seven championship games at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison. A
couple of Central Wisconsin schools are still standing. Iola-Scandanavia from
the Central Wisconsin Conference will play at 1pm today against St. Mary
Springs for the D-6 title. It’s the 3
rd
state finals appearance for
the Thunderbirds and the first since 2007. They face a team that is very
familiar with playing for a championship. Its St Mary Springs seventh finals
appearance in the last nine years and its 10
th
overall. They have
won state titles in 2002,2009,2011,2012,2014 & 2015. Another CWC team will
play at 4pm for the D-5 title. Perennial powerhouse Amherst will face Lake
Country Lutheran. The Falcons have won the last two titles and have advanced to
the championship game in five of the last six seasons. It’s the first state
finals appearance for their opponent. The other games today feature Bangor vs
Black Hawk for the D-7 title at 10am and Lodi vs St. Croix Central for the D-4
crown at 7pm. Tomorrow there are three more games with New Berlin Eisenhower
facing Rice Lake at 10 am in D-3, Brookfield Central vs Waunakee at 1pm in D-2
and the D-1 title game at 4 featuring Sun Prairie and Kimberly. The Papermakers
have won the last four D-1 championship games and they currently have the
longest winning streak in the United States at 69 in a row. They feature both
the State offensive and defensive player of the year. They haven’t been blowing
out teams like they have in the past but who wants to pick against them?
The winter season begins tonight on Foxsports Radio AM1390
& FM 93.9 with a girls basketball doubleheader. First up is Brookfield
Central at DC Everest at 7:30. I’ll have the Mosinee at Wausau East game next
which should air around 9:15 or so.
It could be a lot of fun watching Joel Embiid and Giannis
Antetoukoumpo battle it out for the next few years. Embiid had 46 points, 15
rebounds, seven assists and seven blocks last night as Philly beat LA. The
Sixers who have been horrible for years also had Ben Simmons just miss a
triple-double. Philly is 8-6 on the year and if the brittle Embiid can stay
healthy should be fun to watch. The Bucks won their fourth in a row last night
and have gone 4-0 since acquiring Eric Bledsoe. Could he be the missing piece
that will take this team to the next level?
The Phoenix City Council approved the Milwaukee Brewers
plans to renovate their spring training facility at Maryvale and extended the
lease for 25 years.
Elections have consequences…..Why does it seem that so many
appoointments by the Trump Administration and ok’ed by the Senate are so bad?
Yesterday the Senate confirmed David Zatezalo to run the Mine Safety and Health
Administration. Zatezalo will be in charge of enforcing the same regulations
that were broken by the company he ran before. Another fox guarding the
henhouse moment. Wonder how all those coal miners who voted for Trump feel
about that?……………………….Ron Johnson says he will vote against the Republican tax
reform bill. Before you think that Johnson has found a conscience about the
damage the bill will do to the middle class, no that’s not it. He objects to
what he views as unfair tax treatment of what are called pass-thru entities
compared to large corporations. The plastics company founded by Johnson is one
of those so this is mostly a self-interest vote. But if it helps kill this
abomination of a bill which now also includes the amendment to try and kill the
ACA again I guess we will take it…………………….Paul Ryan says it’s a lie that the
tax plan only benefits the wealthy. Well, it’s certainly not a lie to say that
almost all of the benefits go to the wealthy and millions of middle class
American will get a tax increase. How do Ryan, Duffy and the rest of the
Republicans sleep at night?…….
