STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — The City of Stevens Point is scheduled to begin demolition on the Edgewater Manor building this week.
Mayor Mike Wiza says he expects the work to begin as soon as Monday, according to a statement released last week.
Edgewater Manor has been vacant since the Spring of 2021 when the city voted to close the building and relocate residents to other housing. Since then the building has been used as a training ground for first responders including firefighters and paramedics.
After those drills were completed the city salvaged items such as appliances and electrical wiring. Crews have also been working to remove asbestos from the building before the final razing.
Once the site is clear the city may open a request for proposals for the site, but no timeline for when that will begin has been given.
