It was a telling picture…the Senate working group dealing with the health care bill has no women in it. It would seem to be since more than half the population needs health care too and some of the sensitive issues deal only with womens health care, that they should have not only strong representation on the committee but an equal share of the responsibility. Now that we are talking about it…why don't we let the women take over the running of the country for awhile. It certainly can't hurt and it would seem that some of the women who have earned positions at the edge of power are certainly qualified. So…Hilary Clinton, with all her baggage, was not the woman to lead? Although I disagree that a Clinton presidency would be even close to the disaster we are living through now, I understand that she is damaged beyond repair (some self-inflicted, but much enemy driven). So what do we have? 21 women serve in the US Senate, 83 in the House (thats 19%) Well, how about Arizona Republican Representative Martha McSally? She was the first female A-10 combat pilot in our military and even though she did end up holding her nose and voting for the Trump health care plan, she also added an amendment that would get rid of special treatment for members of Congress regarding the pre-existing condition state waiver provisions. As she stated, “any law we pass that applies to our constituents, must apply equally to members of Congress as well. Anything short of that is hypocrisy” The MacArthur Amendment to the AHCA would have exempted members of Congress and their staffs from facing what we face…Not anymore. How bout Sally Yates? Did you catch any of the Senate hearings yesterday? It was not a good day for Senators from Texas as Yates schooled both Ted Cruz and John Cornyn about what the job of the Justice Department is and Constitutional laws regarding executive orders…Cruz walked out of the hearings . It seems that Trump was calling Republican Senators to try and get Yates testimony cancelled. As one observer tweeted…Sally Yates is the kind of woman who scares the hell out of Trump: educated, intelligent, confident, competent and seemingly morally impeccable. The list goes on…Liz Warren, Susan Collins, Liz Gillibrand, Amy Klobochar, Kamala Harris, Jeanne Shaheen, Lisa Murkowski, Claire McCaskill…and there are certainly others who would bring skill, intellect and sound reasoning to governing…something that we seem to have in short supply in the male controlled environment in DC.
The Brewers return to action tonight hosting the Boston Red Sox. Also Brewer pitcher Junior Guerra is close to returning…he's throwing live batting practice this week. It should be an interesting game on Friday as Matt Harvey will return from his suspension to face the Brewers for the Mets.
Its East-West baseball week. I'll have game 1 tonight from Wausau West at 5pm on Foxsports Radio AM1390 & FM 93.9.
Its too late for me but it seems that scientists have discovered the cells that cause hair to turn grey and also fall out. The Time Magazine story uses information from the journal Genes and Development. Scientists stumbled on the discovery while studying a rare genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow on nerves..using mouse models. More study is required to see if this translates to humans but someday…maybe a topical compound or the ability to safely deliver the necessary gene to hair follicles to correct baldness and hair color depletion….first world problems I know!
Elections have consequences…just some more logs for the fire this week…Donald Trump rails against H1B visas while the Kushner family flogs $500,000 “investor visas in China (they were upset that reporters were in the room questioning them on their actions)…a golf writer dug up a 2014 quote from Eric Trump “we don't rely on American banks. We have all of the funding we need out of Russia”….The Trump administration is ready to replace the academic scientists on the EPA review board with reps from the industries whose pollution the agency is supposed to regulate. The reasoning? Scott Pruitt believes that “the board should be made up of people who understand the impact of regulations on the regulated community” How bout the rest of us who need to understand the damage done by those same industries?….Interesting answers at the Trump/Russia hearings yesterday…Sen Graham: :Are you aware of any Trump/Russia collusion? Yates: I can't say because I would have to reveal classified information”…Feinstein: Is it true that European allies passed along intel regarding Trump/Russia collusion? Clapper: Yes and its quite sensitive…..Another story rports that Michael Flynn told the Russians that “don't worry about sanctions…we got your back”….Trump has been tweeting this week that Obama hired Flynn…that is true, but when he found out what he was he fired him…Trump then hired him as National Security Advisor. NBC reports that Obama warned Trump right after the election not to hire Flynn and of course Sally Yates warned Trump about Flynn's misdeeds and Trump fired her…and only fired Flynn after his crap became public. And,despite warnings, gave a compromised person access to sensitive intelligence data. James Clapper also testified yesterday that some American news outlets either intentionally or unintentionally amplified propaganda and misinformation from the Russians during the presidential campaign…drip, drip, drip
