STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza has announced that the city will suspend all overnight parking restrictions to encourage residents to celebrate the new year in a safe and responsible manner.
“Leave your car and get a ride home,” said Mayor Wiza in a press release on Friday. “Don’t take any chances. Plan ahead and make sure you get home safely.”
The Mayor notes that ridesharing services UBER and LYFT both operate in the city, allowing residents to secure a safe ride home from their smartphones. The Tavern League of Wisconsin also offers taxi vouchers for those who have had too much to drink.
Parking will be allowed in all legal spaces on city streets and in non-permitted city lots on New Year’s Eve. Parking regulations will resume at noon on New Year’s Day, January 1st.
