STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — Governor Tony Evers toured career and technical education facilities at the Stevens Point Area Senior High on Thursday.
During the stop, Evers took time to speak with reports about the state’s current budget surplus and what that could mean for shared revenue with counties and municipalities. He says increasing those payments is something that he and Republicans agree needs to happen.
“The good news, no matter what happens, is there will be increased revenue for municipalities and counties,” said Evers. “That will happen.”
Evers says it’s not a matter of if cities, towns, villages, and counties will get more revenue in the next budget. Instead, the question is how much of a raise will they get. Right now there’s no firm plan for how to handle the payments but he doesn’t see an issue in negotiating the amount.
“The fact that everybody is talking about it and is behind it, I feel confident we can move forward,” added the Governor.
During the hour-long stop, Evers and Lt. Governor Sara Rodriguez saw the school’s woodworking, welding, automotive, and media arts facilities while talking to students about their projects. They were joined by State Representative Katrina Shankland and Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza on the visit as well.
All four touted the school’s career and tech ed programs as models for other districts to follow. Hear more of what they had to say in the above video.
