TOMAHAWK, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Some parents in the Tomahawk School District say they’ve warned the bus company and school administrators about tension on an evening bus route.
WAOW TV has obtained video of the incident in which the bus driver can be heard yelling “How do you like it when somebody tells you what to do?? – you cannot do that! You can’t do that!”
A student can also be heard saying they were calling the police as the driver grew increasingly frustrated by the students’ ‘loud and disrespectful behavior.’
Things boiled over this week when the driver became frustrated with the student’s behavior and returned to the bus barn instead of completing the route. Students were then picked up by their parents or taken home by a substitute driver. School officials have acknowledged the incident and informed parents that the driver in question is no longer running routes for the school, and is cooperating with the investigation into the incident.
Some parents tell WAOW that the situation has been simmering for weeks but the bus company and school have refused to take action. Others credited the bus company with handling this week’s incident gracefully- saying an alternate driver was quickly called in and parents were told that the original driver in question would not be transporting their kids again.
The school district did release a statement saying the safety and security of their students in all situations remain at the forefront, and they hope that the incident does not tarnish the reputation of the other bus drivers for the Tomahawk Bus Company.
