MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) – Residents in Marshfield will vote this spring on a $1.1-million public safety referendum.
The money would hire additional firefighters and EMTs and at least one police officer.
The question reads: “Shall the city of Marshfield be allowed to exceed this limit and increase the levy for the next fiscal year 2024 for the purpose of hiring and retaining additional full-time firefighter paramedics, a sworn-in police officer and clerical staff for the police and fire departments,” according to Administrator Steve Barg.
Marshfield has begun charging for certain emergency response calls because of staffing shortages, including false alarms, vehicle extractions, and certain types of inspections.
Voters will decide during the spring election on April 4.
There have been some concerns that the referendum will compete for dollars and attention with a larger funding request that’s already on the ballot for the Marshfield school district.
