MINOCQUA, WI (WSAU-WXPR) – Since early December volunteers have been out at the Aqua Bowl on Lake Minocqua clearing the snow and prepping the ice.
Will Jeffery wanted to do everything possible to make sure the ice would be thick enough to host the American Pond Hockey Invitational.
Jeffrey is the founder of the event which is hosting its first tournament this weekend. “Our early work, and by our, I mean the community. This is just friends and families and folks who want to see this thing be successful and be a new staple in Minocqua have come out and helped me clear this every time it snows so that the community could come out and skate a little bit and more importantly so the ice would be thick enough come February 3rd and 4th for this event to actually be viable.”
People will be able to watch the hockey games from the Min-Aqua Bats Water Ski Show bleachers.
There will be a food and beer tent. There will be activities for kids and families on shore.
Jeffrey says he capped the event at 20 hockey teams. “We’re trying to create an intimate, fun, family-friendly, spectator-friendly, and very unique experience for everybody.”
The event is Friday and Saturday.
