MILWAUKEE, WI (WTAQ-WRN) – The 19-year-old man who shot and killed Milwaukee Police officer Peter Jerving was out on probation at the time of the shooting.
The shooter, identified by police as Terrell Thompson, was in court Monday for a 2021 case and pled guilty to causing a hit-and-run. Court records show the judge in the case ordering Thompson to serve 120 days in the House of Correction but then staying that sentence in favor of 12 months of probation. Those terms would have Thompson only serving time if he violated the conditions of his probation.
Police say officers found Thompson, who was wanted for a robbery, early Tuesday morning, but he fled. Officers later caught up with Thompson, who shot Officer Jerving during a struggle. Jerving then returned the gunfire, hitting Thompson, who died at the scene.
