RIB MOUNTAIN, WI (WSAU) — Just like everyone else, the street crews in Rib Mountain have been working overtime to clear out record-setting snow from this week’s storms.
Town Administrator Gaylene Rhoden says crews started preparing for the storm days in advance by priming their equipment and watching the forecast. From there it became a familiar cadence.
“They operate the trucks at their optimum times to keep the roads safe and provide adequate rest for the drivers,” said Rhoden. “The crew does an excellent job of making sure not only are our residents safe but also visitors and travelers to our area.”
Rhoden says in addition to the town’s full-time staff they also have some part-time plow drivers who remain on call this time of year to help out. “They have it pretty much down to a science- which routes each one will go on.”
The town is responsible for all of its own roads along with a portion of the County Road R trail which they maintain as part of an agreement with the county. County crews are responsible for clearing the highways that go through the town, including US 51.
The staff is also responsible for clearing many of the town’s recreational trails and some sidewalks as part of the safe routes to school program.
