The Wausau School Board will meet Monday evening in an Education and Operations Committee forum to hear an update on the process of restructuring the district.
Board members will see a presentation from the Administration on what details of the process still need to be ironed out and who will be responsible for them. They’ll also go over potential options for when schools would be merged or closed if the plan is implemented in phases, and what transportation could look like under the new structure.
You can see Monday’s presentation for yourself by clicking here. Board members have budgeted about 30 minutes for the discussion.
District leaders have been talking for months about the plan, including meetings with parents and stakeholders that occurred last summer and several board-level discussions in the fall. They also held a pair of community listening sessions before more detailed discussions in December and January.
The vote to accept portions of the restructuring plan occurred earlier this month as part of a marathon board meeting that lasted several hours and included several presentations. This after a January update saw the board take no action and request further details on things like transportation and staffing. The administration promised frequent updates saying those issues would take time to iron out.
Administrators defended the quick turnaround by saying discussions have been happening for several months, adding that they have been forthcoming with details of the plan and will continue to take public comment and feedback.
Meanwhile, a change dot org petition calling for a public referendum on the matter has already received close to one thousand signatures.
There will be opportunity for public comment at the start of tonight’s meeting.
