CONLEY COMMENTARY (WSAU) – I am on vacation today. These commentaries are on hiatus until I return at the end of the month.
This seems like a good time for saying “thank you” for two things: ratings and these commentaries.
There are far more people who listen to WSAU than I could ever thank in person. And the best measure we have of how many people listen are the Nielson ratings, which come out twice a year. Think of it as a report card for broadcasters.
Well, the most recent ratings show the WSAU is, again, the most-listened-to radio station among adults in Marathon, Portage and Wood counties. And all of us a grateful for the time you spend with us.
The WSAU Wisconsin Morning News and WSAU Feedback, which have been number one repeatedly over the past two years, continue to have ratings above a 10-share. In the broadcasting world, anything 10-or-above is a highly successful broadcast.
The other thing that I’d like to say ‘thank you’ for is these commentaries. 10 years ago, after his death, I began doing commentaries to try to boost up the ratings in Paul Harvey’s time slot. I’m not Paul Harvey. And then I was asked to stop. There was a certain awkwardness about a newsperson, me, voicing opinions about news stories that I might be sharing with you later in the program. Well, that thinking has changed. You’re more than capable of knowing what’s opinion and what’s hard news.
We’re coming up on the one year anniversary of Conley Commentaries 2.0. Getting to share my thoughts on the news of the day is a privilege. And I’m glad that you get to hear my opinions as you form your own.
Thank you.
Chris Conley
