MARASHFIRLD, WI (WSAU) – Voters in the city will decide on increased property tax funding on April 4th, 2023, to support the hiring and retention of nine firefighter/paramedics, one police officer, one records specialist for the Police Department, and one administrative assistant to be split between the Police and Fire departments.
Residents will be asked whether they support an increase in the level by a total of 7.124%, resulting in an overall tax of just under $17 million, including a $1.1 million increase for each fiscal year going forward.
According to the city, the existing funding and staffing levels for public safety are insufficient to meet the needs of the community both now and in the future.
For anyone interested in learning more about the public safety referendum, the city will hold three public meetings. The meeting on Monday will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Second Street Community Center. The second meeting will take place at the Hotel Marshfield at 6:30 PM, and the final meeting will take place at the UWSP-Marshfield Campus on Thursday, March 23rd at 6:30 PM.
For additional information, residents can visit the city’s website at ci.marshfield.wi.us/referendum.
