WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A batch of test ballots were mistakenly left in the parking lot of a Wausau Kwik Trip on Friday.
Officials say the incident occurred as election officials from the Town of Day were picking up supplies for the April 4th Spring Election, which includes the statewide Supreme Court race. Clerk Kim Trueblood says despite the incident, there’s no reason to believe any fraud occurred.
“This was truly an accident. I’ve spoken with the town official and all other election materials that were picked up from the Marathon County Clerk’s Office this afternoon have been accounted for,”
said Marathon County Clerk Kim Trueblood in a press release.
According to Trueblood, the ballots were found by a resident who immediately brought them to Wausau City Hall. After they inspected the materials they were immediately forwarded to Trueblood’s office at the Marathon County Courthouse.
“My office is in custody of the test ballots that were found and will properly destroy and dispose of them,” added Trueblood. “New test ballots will be issued to the Town of Day so that all election equipment can be properly tested ahead of the April 4 election.”
Trueblood adds that this is part of routine supply distribution for the election.
