RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU-WXPR) — A Northwoods man who struck and killed a 23-year-old while under the influence of alcohol will serve prison time.
Jeffrey Leibscher will serve three years in prison and seven years of probation for turning his pickup into a motorcycle driven by Sean Holtslander, then fleeing the scene of the crash.
Leibscher, who was working as an EMT, had been drinking the night of the crash and failed to report the incident until the next day. Another resident who came up to the scene shortly after called 911 to report the incident.
Leibscher’s sentence was for a single count of felony hit-and-run causing death. Other charges against him were dropped as part of a plea deal.
Dorthy Holtslander asked the judge for a 23-year sentence, according to WXPR Radio in Rhinelander, to represent the age of her son at the time of the crash.
