CONLEY COMMENTARY (WSAU) – The side-show surrounding Donald Trump’s arraignment was political theater at its finest.
On the day Trump’s indictment became public, NYPD ordered a surge of officers. All police were ordered to be visible and in-uniform. Patrols were increased at Trump Towers and at Manhattan Criminal Court… just in case there were protests that got out of hand. Leading up to the arraignment, state police and court officers took up positions. Mayor Eric Adams reminded protestors that trouble-makers wouldn’t be tolerated, while specifically singling out Majorie Taylor Green. The mayor told us that she has a history of “spreading disinformation.” Governor Kathy Hochul told us that she was ready to use state troopers or the National Guard as reinforcements if there was Trump-related unrest.
This was nothing short of baiting. The dream of the democrat political class was demonstrations that got physical surrounding Trump’s arraignment. Then they’d run to the microphones to score cheap political points. “See, we told you all along these Trump supporters are domestic terrorists.”
Well, not exactly. Even people like me, whose support of Donald Trump has waned, know a politically-motivated prosecution when we see one. I’d never resort to political violence, but I count myself among the many people who see the dangerous path we’re going down.
Paul Sperry wrote in the New York Post about the brave new world we’ve entered. He points out that the Clinton Foundation, which is no longer actively soliciting donations from foreign countries, still has offices in Little Rock. The District Attorney there is a Republican who could decide to investigate how much foundation money went to the Clintons personally. He also writes that President Biden’s brother Jim has allegedly defrauded health care companies, one of which is in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania – a GOP stronghold. An ambitious DA could empanel a grand jury.
Back in New York City, why weren’t Black Lives Matter protesters weren’t warned to behave themselves? I recall the highly organized looting of Macy’s at Herald Square and the firebombing of a police squad car with two officers still inside it. Why the double standard? Because BLM violence is considered righteous anger. Trump-related violence is domestic terrorism.
