ROSEMONT, IL (WSAU) — The Big Ten Conference has announced the schedule pairings for the upcoming men’s basketball season for all 14 schools, saddling Wisconsin with a tough slate.
Wisconsin will play a double round-robin schedule against seven teams including Ohio State, Purdue, Indiana, Michigan State, Iowa, Rutgers, and Nebraska. Meaning they will play four of last year’s top five teams twice in the new year.
The remaining six conference games will be against Illinois, Maryland, and Northwestern (Home); and Minnesota, Michigan, and Penn State (Road).
As has become tradition the 20-game Big Ten slate will begin with two games in early or mid-December and continue with 18 games after the turn of the new year. Everything will lead up to the Big Ten Conference Tournament, which will be played at Target Center in Minneapolis beginning March 13th.
The dates, times, and TV assignments for the Big Ten schedule will be announced later this summer. As usual, you’ll be able to hear all the Badger games on WSAU.
Earlier this month Wisconsin and Tennessee announced that the Volunteers would visit the Badgers to open the season on November 10th at the Kohl Center. That satisfies a previous home-and-home agreement that saw the two teams play in Knoxville back in 2019. Wisconsin’s non-conference slate will also include one multi-team event, the Ft. Meyers Tip-Off in Florida. Matchups for that event have not been announced.
Gone this year is the Big Ten-ACC Challenge, which has matched schools from both leagues against each other in an annual challenge event since the mid-2000s. The event was brokered by ESPN, which had owned the rights to broadcast games from both conferences. That’s not the case anymore with the Big Ten turning to NBC, CBS, and FOX as its new partners for football, basketball, and other events.
This also marks the last year of the 14-team Big Ten conference format. USC and UCLA are set to officially join the league on July 1st, 2024, and will be included on all future conference schedules.
