WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — The former Municipal Clerk of Courts for the City of Marshfield, accused of stealing more than $70,000 in citation payments, has filed a motion seeking the suppression of some evidence against her.
Court records show that Susan Carlson has filed a motion to have evidence against her suppressed because it was obtained during an unlawful search of her home. A second motion was also filed calling for the dismissal of the case based on the destruction of evidence that could prove her innocence.
A hearing on those motions is expected on May 25th.

Carlson is suspected of pocketing payments that were supposed to go to the city. The missing funds were discovered when the new Clerk of Courts took over following Carlson’s retirement in early 2021, and an investigation was immediately opened.
A final pre-trial conference was scheduled for June 9th, though no trial date has been set. She has pled not guilty to the charges and is free on a signature bond.
Carlson was initially scheduled for a court appearance in late April. That was reset following the filing of those motions.
