WESTON, WI (WSAU) — Marshfield Clinic has officially taken control of Ascension St. Clare’s Hospital in Weston, which will now be known as Marshfield Medical Center-Weston.
According to a news release from Marshfield Clinic, the sale was finalized on August 1st and also included Ascension’s 50% stake in the Flambeau Hospital in Park Falls.
“This is a historically important day for our Health System and the communities we serve,” said Dr. Susan Turney, CEO, Marshfield Clinic Health System. “Having a hospital in the Weston/Wausau area allows us to create a fully-integrated campus combining our hospital and clinical facilities, which provides highly-coordinated care that is efficient and creates a simple and seamless patient experience.”
As of Saturday around 350 St. Clare’s employees have now become Marshfield Clinic employees. Plans to integrate the Flambeau Hospital into the Marshfield Clinic system will be put in motion over the next two months.
The agreement also included control of the Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Weston, giving Marshfield Clinic complete control of the Weston Regional Medical Center.
Marshfield Clinic Health System and Ascension first announced a memorandum of understanding for the sale in October 2019. A definitive agreement was reached in February. Full terms of the sale will not be disclosed.
The sale canceled out plans for Marshfield Clinic to expand and remodel its current facility in Wausau, which had been announced in the fall of 2019.
