HURLEY, WI (WSAU) – The Michigan State Police report that the eight-year-old boy who was reported missing from the Porcupine Mountains has been recovered safely.
On its Facebook page, the Hurley School District announced that Nante Niemi, a local second-grader, has been located unharmed about two miles from where he was last seen.
The post read, “Words can not describe the emotions and joy the students and staff are experiencing at the moment!”
Niemi was camping with his family near Wakefield in the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park when he went missing.
The roughly 40 square mile area was searched on foot by at least 150 search and rescue personnel, including nine Michigan State Police K9s. Authorities searched for Niemi using a wide variety of tools, such as boats and planes.
