MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Flags across Wisconsin will be lowered to half-staff Friday in honor of a sheriff’s deputy who was killed last weekend.
St. Croix County Sheriff’s Deputy Kaitie Leising was fatally shot Saturday after an encounter with a suspected drunken driver.
The suspect, Jeremiah Johnson, shot and killed himself an hour later, officials said.
Services for Leising, 29, are scheduled for Friday in Hudson.
“Deputy Kaitie Leising was admired by her colleagues and community alike for the positivity, drive, and dedication to service she carried with her every day,” Gov. Tony Evers said in ordering flags lowered. “The weight of Deputy Leising’s death is a loss felt by folks across the state. We continue to keep Deputy Leising’s family and loved ones, the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office, the St. Croix County community, and all those that knew and served alongside her in our hearts as they mourn her tragic passing.”
Leising joined the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office last year after working in the Pennington County, South Dakota, Sheriff’s Office.
