JANESVILLE, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — A Janesville nurse will likely head to prison for allegedly stealing fentanyl.
Prosecutors for the U.S. Justice Department says Dawn Drum would draw fentanyl from vials at SSM Heath St. Mary’s Hospital and replace the drug with a saline solution, seal the vial stoppers, and return the vials to an automated dispensing machine.
An audit showing an excessive pattern of fentanyl override and wastes from the automated machine led back to the 54-year-old Drum, who left the hospital in November 2021.
A deal Drum struck with federal prosecutors Monday could have her spending 18 months behind bars and paying a $30,000 fine.
