WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — The city of Wisconsin Rapids has found its next Police Chief in Daniel Hostens.
The 26-year veteran of the Galesburg, IL police department will join the Rapids PD on Monday. Mayor Shane Blaser says he brings stability to the department at a time when they need it.
“In the conversations I’ve had with him since he was conditionally offered the position [it’s clear] that succession planning is very important. He’s into training and education, and I look forward to any other ideas he may have,” said Blaser. “He sounds like a team player and I’m looking forward [to having him.]”
Wisconsin Rapids has been without a Police Chief since the spring of 2022 when Erman Blivens retired. Blaser says the department had one officer who would have been qualified to apply for the promotion, but they choose to retire. He says that meant going outside the department was their best option, but he expects Hostens will find a way to integrate himself and his family into the community.
“I would venture to guess that organizations and community members will get to know him as the face of the department,” added Blaser.
Hostens, who was second in command at the Galesburg PD, also recently completed the FBI Academy.
Hostens begins his new job on Monday, May 15th. Blaser adds that Wisconsin Rapids isn’t completely foreign to him, his wife has ties to Wisconsin and he’s also done some golfing in the region as well.
